Youth Sleep Survey
To measure sleep health across the San Francisco Bay Area, we created and distributed our Youth Sleep Health Survey, containing questions about sleep health in youth. The results are shared below.

Sleep Time
77.2% of respondents slept an average of less than eight hours per night.

School Days
73.1% of respondents slept for less than eight hours for at least three out of five school days.

Insomnia
62.6% of respondents have trouble sleeping or waking up at least 2 days a week.

Daily Performance
65% of respondents had difficulty keeping up with peers at least two days per week due to sleep-related reasons.

Drowsy Driving
54% of respondents with a license reported driving while sleepy or drowsy.

Electronic Devices
64.7% of respondents spent an average of at least two hours on their devices before bedtime.

Workload
86.3% of respondents felt that academics negatively affected their sleep by at least 3 points on a 1 to 5 scale.

Academic Performance
83.1% of respondents felt that their sleep impacted academic performance by at least 3 points on a 1 to 5 scale.

Extracurriculars
69.2% of respondents reported that their extracurricular activities affected sleep.

Emotional/Behavioral
23.4% of respondents experienced emotional or behavioral challenges which affected sleep.

Time Management
55.5% of respondents felt that their time management significant affected sleep.

External Help
60.2% of respondents did not know of any resources to help with sleep.
